Dr. Selma Umar

Since early in Selma's education she discovered her passion for the field of physical therapy rehabilitation. She first was exposed to the profession in high school when her grandfather was visiting from Venezuela. He was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease and had no access to care in Venezuela. While staying with her family for a month, a family friend, who was a physical therapist, offered to treat him while he was in town. Selma would take her grandfather to the appointments and actively watch how the therapist would work with him and the other patients. She found herself becoming more and more interested and ended up volunteering at the clinic in her spare time. From this point on, there was no doubt in her mind that physical therapy was the career she would want to pursue.

Dr. Umar obtained her Bachelors of Science from the University Of South Carolina in 2012, with a focus on exercise science with a psychology minor, and she received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from MCPHS University in 2016.

Since graduating Selma had the opportunity to move to San Diego and work in an outpatient orthopedic clinic as both a staff therapist and a clinical director. Ultimately Selma knew that she wanted to give each and every patient the care they deserved, so she started her own practice, Priority Care Physical Therapy. She now treats patients in a one-on-one individualized care plan.

In her spare time, Selma is an avid runner and enjoys completing half-marathons. She also enjoys hiking, cooking, and traveling.
