WEIGHT-LOSS SURGERY
IN MEXICO

Weight loss surgery in Mexico is an effective procedure that can help people lose weight by making some changes to the organism, specifically in the digestive system. Usually, healthcare insurance does not cover this type of procedure because it is considered aesthetic, although in many cases this operation becomes necessary due to health rather than aesthetic reasons.

Unfortunately, many people have to pay for these treatments that are quite expensive in the US and cost up to $ 30,000. At Health & Wellness Bazaar, we focus on offering weight loss surgery in Mexico that will allow you to save up to 80% of the total costs of the operation and obtain the same benefits and results.

To know if a person has overweight it is necessary to see the body mass index (BMI). This metric helps understand the nutritional status of people; based on the height and weight of people, and when its calculated it will indicate if the person is underweight (<18.5), is within the established ranges (18.5 -24.9), or if the person is overweight (25-29.9) or obese (30+). This index is the first step knowing the nutritional and health condition of any person. During the last years, obesity has been a constant concern in Canada, United States and also Mexico since the percentage of people suffering from obesity has increased, which causes a large part of the population to suffer from obesity-related health problems.

WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON
DISEASES RELATED TO OBESITY?

Heart disease and stroke

Extra weight usually makes people have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Cholesterol is a substance that is very similar to fat, and the body needs it to produce hormones, vitamin D and other elements that are essential for the proper functioning of the body. However, when there is excess cholesterol in the blood, it can narrow or harden the arteries, which can be dangerous for one’s health, causing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, which is one of the leading causes of death. This disease includes coronary, cerebrovascular disease or peripheral arterial disease that causes severe pain in the legs.

Some of the causes that can cause elevated cholesterol are:

  • Hereditary: Sometimes the body makes more cholesterol, while the body does not eliminate it as quickly (genes)
  • Age and sex: Cholesterol in men is usually higher before age 50, while for women tends to rise in menopause
  • Overweight: Having a weight higher than recommended will cause triglycerides and cholesterol in your body to increase. By losing weight, you can lower your LDL cholesterol and raise your HDL Cholesterol
  • Diet: Consume saturated fat that is present in foods of animal origin and some oils, consume "trans" fatty acids and cholesterol that comes from foods of animal origin

The good news is that losing a small amount of weight can reduce your chances of developing heart disease or a stroke. Losing 5%-10% of your weight is proven to lower the probability of developing these diseases.

Type 2 diabetes

Most people with this disease are overweight or obese. Diabetes is a life-long disease that affects the way your body handles glucose. The pancreas is responsible for creating a hormone that transforms fructose into energy. People with this disease produce this hormone, although their body does not use it as it should, and sometimes the pancreas can no longer continue producing it and blood sugar begins to increase. Sometimes this disease can go unnoticed, so we want to share some of the symptoms that can occur are: being very thirsty and irritable, peeing a lot, blurry vision, feeling tired, wounds that do not heal, yeast infections, and tingling or numbness in your hands or feet.

Cancer

Obesity increases the possibility of suffering from some types of cancer since having excessive fat tissue can produce an excess of estrogen that can cause tumors of the breast, endometrium, among others. Also, people who suffer from obesity usually have increased levels of this hormone that can cause tumors because obesity produces a state of inflammation and chronic oxidative stress. Likewise, fat cells produce hormones that can stimulate or inhibit the growth of cells.

Low levels of physical activity, poor dietary habits such as small fiber intake, high consumption of saturated fats and refined carbohydrates means that a large part of the population does not maintain a BMI of less than 25 during their lifetime, making them more prone to suffer cancer during his adult life.

Sleep apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea is a frequent and severe disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops for 10 seconds or more during sleep. Some of the most common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea are loud snoring and repeated nighttime awakenings followed by excessive daytime sleepiness. This disorder is more common in people with excess weight and obesity, which is associated with a soft tissue of the mouth and throat. During sleep, when throat and tongue are more relaxed, this soft tissue can cause the airway to become blocked, among other factors. This disorder can lead to dangerous complications, such as cardiovascular disease, accidents, and premature death. Weight loss can improve sleep apnea, and weight loss surgery is associated with an 85% success rate considerably reducing the symptoms of this disorder.
